Day 57 of 135

Day 57: Who Plays the Teacher Tomorrow

The day before the class talent show, fourth-graders Geonu (A) and Yerin (B) meet in the school playground to rehearse their comedy sketch.

How to study this lesson 4 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Still learning Hangul? Tick Romanization to see how each line sounds, but read the Korean first.
  3. Download the Anki deck below and review it every day. It has every line of today's dialogue. Review earlier decks too when Anki asks you to.
  4. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Korean, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio recordings are on the way. For now, each lesson is the dialogue with its English translation.

The teacher trips over the student's bag and drops her glasses. Then you pick them up, put them on and become the teacher.

  17. B 였, 그럼 λ„˜μ–΄μ§€λŠ” 것도 λ„€κ°€ ν•˜κ³  μ„ μƒλ‹˜λ„ λ„€κ°€ λ¨Όμ € ν•˜λ„€? μ’€ 얡지 κ°™κΈ΄ ν•œλ° 웃기긴 ν•˜κ² λ‹€.

Oh, so you get to fall over and be the teacher first? It's a bit of a stretch, but it would be funny.

  18. A λŒ€μ‹  λ§ˆμ§€λ§‰ λŒ€μ‚¬λŠ” λ„€κ°€ ν•΄. μ„ μƒλ‹˜μ΄ λ„˜μ–΄μ‘ŒλŠ”λ° 학생이 μ›ƒλŠ” μž₯면이야. 제일 멋진 λŒ€μ‚¬λ‘œ.

Deal! Let me practise. "Kim Geonu! How can you just laugh when your teacher has fallen over! Ten pages of apology by tomorrow!"

  20. A 크크, λ°˜μ„±λ¬Έ μ—΄ μž₯은 λ„ˆλ¬΄ν–ˆλ‹€. 우리 μ„ μƒλ‹˜λ„ μ„Έ μž₯밖에 μ•ˆ μ‹œν‚€μ…”. ν˜Έλ“€κ°‘ μ’€ 쀄여.

Keukeu, banseongmun yeol jangeun neomuhaetda. Uri seonsaengnimdo se jangbakke an sikisyeo. Hodeulgap jom juryeo.

Heh, ten pages is way too much. Even our teacher only makes us write three. Tone down the drama a bit.

  21. B μ½©νŠΈλ‹ˆκΉŒ κ³Όμž₯ν•΄μ•Ό 웃기지. 자, 이제 μ§„μ§œ μ²˜μŒλΆ€ν„° ν•΄ 보자. μ•ˆκ²½ λŒ€μ‹  μ—„λ§ˆ μ„ κΈ€λΌμŠ€ κ°€μ Έμ™”μ–΄.

It's a sketch, so it has to be over the top to be funny. Okay, now let's really do it from the top. I brought my mom's sunglasses instead of glasses.

  22. A μ„ κΈ€λΌμŠ€ μ“΄ μ„ μƒλ‹˜μ΄ μ–΄λ”” μžˆμ–΄? ...μ•„λ‹ˆλ‹€, 그게 더 웃기겠닀. μ‹œμž‘!
