Day 166: Husband Makes the Seollal Dumplings

Over tea at her grandmother's house, Sujin (A) tells her grandmother (B) about her and her husband Minho's plans for Seollal.

Grandma, this Seollal, my husband is going to make all the dumplings and pancakes.
B 뭐? 이 서방이? 남자가 부엌에서 전을 부친다고?

What? Minho? A man frying pancakes in the kitchen?
A 네. 저는 운전하고, 민호 씨는 요리하고요. 요즘은 그런 집 많아요.

Ne. Jeoneun unjeonhago, Minho ssineun yorihagoyo. Yojeumeun geureon jip manayo.

Yes. I'll drive, and Minho will cook. Lots of families do that these days.
B 우리 집은 오십 년 동안 명절 음식을 여자들이 다 해 왔는데.

In our family, the women have done all the holiday cooking for fifty years.

Exactly. You've worked hard for fifty years, so this time you rest.
B 아이고, 그래도 처음이라 힘들 텐데. 이 서방이 만두는 빚어 봤니?

Oh dear, it'll be hard for him the first time. Has Minho ever made dumplings?
A 지난주부터 유튜브를 보면서 연습하고 있어요. 어제는 스무 개나 만들었어요.
