Day 177: Hosting Chuseok for the First Time

In the lift of their apartment building, Seoyun's mother (A) tells her neighbour, Minjae's mother (B), some big news about Chuseok.

Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Still learning Hangul? Tick Romanization to see how each line sounds, but read the Korean first.

What should I start preparing first?

Do your grocery shopping three days ahead. So the day before isn't too exhausting.

How many kinds of jeon should I make?
B 욕심내지 말고 두세 가지만 하세요. 많이 하면 다 먹지도 못해요.

Yoksimnaeji malgo duse gajiman haseyo. Mani hamyeon da meokjido motaeyo.

Don't overdo it. Just make two or three kinds. If you make lots, nobody can finish them.
A 그래도 시어머니가 매년 많이 하셨거든요.

Geuraedo sieomeoniga maenyeon mani hasyeotgeodeunyo.

But my mother-in-law always made loads every year.
B 준비하는 만큼 가족들도 알아줄 거예요. 그래도 혼자 다 하지는 마세요.

Junbihaneun mankeum gajokdeuldo arajul geoyeyo. Geuraedo honja da hajineun maseyo.

Your family will appreciate all the effort you put in. But don't do it all by yourself.
A 맞아요. 형님한테 전은 같이 부치자고 해 봐야겠어요.

You're right. I should ask my sister-in-law to fry the jeon with me.
B 그래요. 그리고 식혜는 제가 만들어서 조금 가져다 드릴게요.

Geuraeyo. Geurigo sikhyeneun jega mandeureoseo jogeum gajyeoda deurilgeyo.

Good idea. And I'll make some sikhye and bring a little over.
