Day 215: Registering Our New Address

In the hallway of their new building, Yejin (A) and Dasom (B), two flatmates, ask their landlord, Mr. Kim (C), about registering their new address.

Excuse me, how do we change our address after moving?
C 아, 전입신고요? 이사하고 이 주 안에 해야 돼요.

A, jeonipsingoyo? Isahago i ju ane haeya dwaeyo.

Oh, the move-in registration? You have to do it within two weeks of moving.
B 이 주요? 벌써 일주일 지났는데요.

I juyo? Beolsseo iljuil jinanneundeyo.

Two weeks? A week's already gone.
C 아직 시간 있어요. 주민센터에 가서 해도 되고, 온라인으로 신청해도 돼요.

Ajik sigan isseoyo. Juminsenteoe gaseo haedo doego, ollaineuro sincheonghaedo dwaeyo.

There's still time. You can go to the community centre, or apply online.
A 우리 둘 다 회사 다니잖아. 평일에 주민센터 가기 힘들 텐데.

We both work, though. It'll be hard to get to the community centre on a weekday.
C 주민센터는 주말만 아니면 저녁 여섯 시까지 해요. 점심시간에 잠깐 가도 되고요.

The community centre's open till six on any day but the weekend. You could pop over on your lunch break.
B 그래도 온라인이 편하겠다. 근데 꼭 해야 돼요? 안 하면 어떻게 돼요?

Online still sounds easier. But do we really have to? What happens if we don't?
C 꼭 해야 돼요. 신고를 해야 보증금이 안전하거든요.

You really do. Your deposit's only safe once you've registered.
A 주소 바꾸는 거랑 보증금이 무슨 상관이 있어요?

What does changing our address have to do with the deposit?
C 신고를 해 놓아야 집에 문제가 생겨도 보증금을 먼저 돌려받을 수 있거든요.

Because if anything goes wrong with the building, you can only get your deposit back first if you've registered.
