Day 91: Transfer Offer to Busan

At home one evening, Hyunjoo (A) hears some news about her husband Jaewon's (B) job.

Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Still learning Hangul? Tick Romanization to see how each line sounds, but read the Korean first.

Honey, we need to talk. The Busan branch came up at work today.
A 부산 지점? 무슨 얘기?

Busan jijeom? Museun yaegi?

The Busan branch? What about it?
B 거기 가면 팀장으로 승진이야. 다음 주까지 결정해야 돼.

Geogi gamyeon timjangeuro seungjiniya. Daeum jukkaji gyeoljeonghaeya dwae.

If I go there, I'll be promoted to team leader. I have to decide by next week.
A 와, 축하해! 근데 애들은? 민지는 내년에 중학교 가잖아.

Wa, chukhahae! Geunde aedeureun? Minjineun naenyeone junghakgyo gajana.

Wow, congratulations! But what about the kids? Minji starts middle school next year.
B 그래서 고민이야. 나 혼자 먼저 내려가고 주말마다 올라올까?

That's what's bothering me. Should I go down on my own first and come back up every weekend?
A 주말부부? 그건 싫어. 가족은 같이 살아야지 의미가 있지.

Only seeing each other at weekends? I don't want that. A family has to live together, or what's the point?
B 그럼 다 같이 갈까? 애들이 전학 가는 게 쉽지 않을 거야.

Then should we all go? Changing schools won't be easy for the kids.
A 애들이 새 학교에 잘 적응할 수 있도록 방학 때 이사하면 어때?

What if we moved during the holidays, so the kids can settle in at their new schools?
B 겨울 방학이면 딱 좋겠다. 삼월에 새 학기가 시작되니까.

The winter holidays would be perfect. The new school year starts in March.
A 그리고 애들 생각도 꼭 들어 봐야 돼. 애들도 같이 결정해야지 나중에 불만이 없어.

And we have to hear what the kids think. They need to be part of the decision, or they'll resent it later.
B 맞아. 내일 저녁 먹고 나서 애들이랑 다 같이 얘기해 보자.

You're right. Let's all talk it over with the kids after dinner tomorrow.
