Day 105 of 185

Day 105: Can't Breathe on Fine-Dust Days

At a clinic, Sujin (A), a young woman with asthma, sees Dr. Han (B) because her breathing gets worse every fine-dust season.

How to study this lesson 4 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Still learning Hangul? Tick Romanization to see how each line sounds, but read the Korean first.
  3. Download the Anki deck below and review it every day. It has every line of today's dialogue. Review earlier decks too when Anki asks you to.
  4. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Korean, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio recordings are on the way. For now, each lesson is the dialogue with its English translation.

It happens every spring, but this year is the worst. At night I can't sleep for coughing, however hard I try.

Cycling when the fine dust is bad is really bad for asthma. On those days, make sure you take the subway.

Breathing in less dust matters more than the medicine. Do you have an air purifier at home?

For asthma patients, it's a must. And wear a KF94 mask, not a regular one.

Algetseumnida. Geunde KF94reul sseugo jajeongeoreul tamyeon sumi deo chadeondeyo.

Got it. But when I wear a KF94 on the bike, I get even more out of breath.

  17. B ๊ทธ๋Ÿฌ๋‹ˆ๊นŒ ๊ทธ๋Ÿฐ ๋‚ ์€ ์ž์ „๊ฑฐ๋ฅผ ์‰ฌ์„ธ์š”. ์–ด๋จธ๋‹˜ ๋ง์”€ ์ข€ ๋“ค์œผ์‹œ๊ณ ์š”.

That's exactly why you should give the bike a rest on those days. And listen to your mother.
