   Hello. There's another new poem up. 'Eleven at night, the vacuum upstairs weeps.' This one makes me feel a bit guilty.

   Oh, yes... hello. Guilty, you say? Which floor are you on, if you don't mind me asking?

   A 십오 층이요. 제가 밤에 청소기를 좀 돌리거든요. 이 익명의 시인이 우리 라인 사람인가 봐요.

   A 궁금하죠. 근데 선생님, 손에 들고 계신 거 테이프 아니에요? 그 종이도 게시판에 붙은 거랑 똑같은 연두색인데요.

   I am. But isn't that tape in your hand? And that paper's the same pale green as the one on the notice board.

   B 들켰네요. 네, 제가 썼어요. 십사 층 살아요. 끝까지 익명으로 하려고 했는데, 테이프를 든 채로 딱 마주칠 줄은 몰랐네요.

   You've caught me. Yes, I wrote it. I live on fourteen. I meant to stay anonymous to the end. I never thought I'd run into someone with the tape still in my hand.

   A 그럼 이 청소기가 제 청소기네요. 정말 죄송합니다. 시로 항의를 받은 건 처음이라 좀 민망하네요.

   So this vacuum is my vacuum. I'm really sorry. It's the first time I've had a complaint in the form of a poem, so it's a bit embarrassing.

   B 항의라기보다는... 솔직히 반은 하소연이고 반은 시예요. 제가 밤에 시 한 줄 쓸라치면 꼭 그때 청소기 소리가 시작되거든요.

   It's less a complaint than... honestly, it's half grumbling and half poem. Whenever I sit down at night to write a line, that's exactly when the vacuum starts.

   I work evening shifts at a hospital, so I get home at half past ten. If not then, I just don't have time to clean.

    B 마지막 구절 읽어 보셨어요? '누구의 하루가 이제야 끝나는가?' 그래서 저도 화만 낼 수는 없었어요.

    Did you read the last line? 'Whose day is only now coming to an end?' That's why I couldn't just be angry.

    A 그 구절 읽고 좀 뭉클했어요. 누가 제 하루를 알아준 것 같아서요. 소음 얘기인데 위로를 받을 줄은 몰랐네요.

    That line actually moved me. It felt like someone understood my day. I never thought a poem about noise would comfort me.

    B 그 한 줄 찾는다고 밤을 새웠어요. 처음엔 '시끄러운 윗집'이라고 썼는데, 너무 미운 말 같아서 지웠죠.

    I stayed up all night trying to find that one line. At first I wrote 'the noisy people upstairs,' but it sounded too spiteful, so I deleted it.

    You were up all night writing? Then my vacuum must have got in the way that night too. Now I'm doubly sorry.

    The vacuum was quiet that night. But whenever I actually try to write on a quiet night, not a single line comes. Strange, isn't it?

    That doesn't mean you can keep running it at night. Could you switch to a quieter vacuum, or use a floor mop at night?
