Day 150: How Does DIY Tteokbokki Work?

At a cook-it-yourself tteokbokki restaurant, Chaewon (A), a teenager there with her friends for the first time, asks a member of staff (B) how it works.

How to study this lesson 4 steps

Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Still learning Hangul? Tick Romanization to see how each line sounds, but read the Korean first.

Order one basic tteokbokki per person, then add whatever you like.

You can choose the spice level, from one to three.

Sure. When the sauce boils, turn down the heat and keep stirring. Otherwise it sticks to the bottom.

When can we eat the rice cakes?
B 떡이 말랑해지면 드셔도 돼요. 라면은 마지막에 넣으시고요.

Tteogi mallanghaejimyeon deusyeodo dwaeyo. Ramyeoneun majimage neoeusigoyo.

Once the rice cakes go soft, you can eat them. Put the noodles in last.
A 옆 테이블은 볶음밥을 먹네요. 볶음밥도 돼요?

Yeop teibeureun bokkeumbabeul meongneyo. Bokkeumbapdo dwaeyo?

The next table's having fried rice. Can we get fried rice too?
B 네, 떡볶이를 다 드시고 말씀해 주시면 제가 볶아 드릴게요.
