Day 157: Driving Test, Second Attempt

At the driving test centre, Subin (A) waits for her second road test with her boyfriend, Hyunwoo (B).

Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Still learning Hangul? Tick Romanization to see how each line sounds, but read the Korean first.

Of course I am. It's my second try. If I fail again, I'll be so embarrassed.
B 지난번에 뭐 때문에 떨어졌지? 우회전할 때였나?

Jinanbeone mwo ttaemune tteoreojyeotji? Uhoejeonhal ttaeyeonna?

What made you fail last time? Something at a right turn?
A 응, 우회전할 때 깜빡이를 안 켰어. 그리고 정지선도 조금 넘었어.

Yeah, I didn't put my indicator on when I turned right. And I went a bit over the stop line.
B 그럼 그 두 개만 조심하면 돼. 오늘 아침에 연습도 많이 했잖아.

Geureom geu du gaeman josimhamyeon dwae. Oneul achime yeonseupdo mani haetjana.

Then just watch out for those two things. You practised a lot this morning, too.
A 그래도 손이 계속 떨려. 만져 봐, 완전 차갑지?

My hands are still shaking, though. Feel them. Ice cold, right?
B 아까 연습할 때는 진짜 자신 있어 보였는데.

You looked really confident when you were practising earlier.
A 그건 네가 옆에 있어서 그렇지. 감독관 옆에 앉으면 머리가 하얘져.

That's because you were next to me. When I sit next to the examiner, my mind goes blank.
B 그럼 감독관을 나라고 생각해. 그리고 출발하기 전에 깜빡이부터 확인해.

Geureom gamdokgwaneul narago saenggakae. Geurigo chulbalhagi jeone kkamppagibuteo hwaginhae.

Then pretend the examiner is me. And check your indicator before you pull away.
A 알았어. 근데 이번에도 떨어지면 어떡하지?

Arasseo. Geunde ibeonedo tteoreojimyeon eotteokaji?

Okay. But what if I fail this time too?
B 또 떨어지거든 맛있는 거 먹으러 가자. 내가 살게.

Tto tteoreojigeodeun masinneun geo meogeureo gaja. Naega salge.

If you fail again, we'll go and eat something nice. My treat.
A 붙으면? 그때도 사 줄 거야?

Buteumyeon? Geuttaedo sa jul geoya?

And if I pass? Will you treat me then too?
B 붙거든 네가 사. 그리고 첫 드라이브 때 조수석은 내 자리야.

Butgeodeun nega sa. Geurigo cheot deuraibeu ttae josuseogeun nae jariya.

If you pass, you're paying. And the passenger seat on your first drive is mine.
