Day 180: Knitting Scarves for the Care Home

In an after-school club, Hajun (A) and Jia (B), two primary-school classmates, are knitting scarves for a care home.

Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Still learning Hangul? Tick Romanization to see how each line sounds, but read the Korean first.

Jia, that wool is such a pretty colour. Where did you buy it?

I didn't buy it. It's wool my grandma used to knit with.
A 할머니 걸 가져와도 돼?

Are you allowed to bring your grandma's things?
B 응. 요양원 할머니들한테 선물하라고 주셨어.

Yeah. She gave it to me to make presents for the grandmas at the care home.

Our teacher said it gets a bit cold at the care home in winter. The harder we work, the warmer they'll be.

Then I'd better work harder too. But my yarn keeps getting tangled.
B 너무 세게 당겨서 그래. 이렇게 살살 해 봐.

That's because you're pulling too hard. Do it gently, like this.
A 오, 된다! 근데 지아야, 내 거 좀 봐. 너무 길지 않아?

Oh, it works! But Jia, look at mine. Isn't it too long?
B 하하, 하준아. 이건 목도리가 아니라 이불이야.

Haha, hajuna. Igeon mokdoriga anira iburiya.

Ha ha, Hajun. That's not a scarf, it's a blanket.
A 아니야! 길어야 목에 두 번 감을 수 있잖아.

No, it's not! It has to be long so you can wrap it round your neck twice.
B 알았어. 그럼 긴 건 키 큰 할아버지 드리자.
