Day 209: Snow Day School Bus

On a snowy morning, Junseo (A) arrives late to class, and Harin (B), a girl in his class, asks him what happened.

The school bus came forty minutes late. My feet froze solid at the stop.
B 나는 걸어왔는데 버스보다 빨랐네.

Naneun georeowanneunde beoseuboda ppallanne.

I walked, and I was faster than the bus.
A 나도 걸어오려다가 엄마가 길이 미끄럽다고 해서 그냥 기다렸어.

I was going to walk too, but my mom said the roads were slippery, so I just waited.
B 진짜 미끄럽긴 했어. 나 학교 앞 언덕에서 한 번 넘어졌어.

It really was slippery. I fell once on the hill in front of the school.
A 괜찮아? 다친 데 없어?

Gwaenchana? Dachin de eopseo?

Are you okay? Did you get hurt?
B 응, 엉덩이만 좀 아파. 아, 첫 시간에 '반면에' 넣어서 문장 만들기 했어. 숙제도 그거야.

Eung, eongdeongiman jom apa. A, cheot sigane 'banmyeone' neoeoseo munjang mandeulgi haesseo. Sukjedo geugeoya.

Yeah, my bum just hurts a bit. Oh, in first period we made sentences with 'whereas'. That's the homework too.
A 그거 쉽네. 버스는 따뜻한 반면에 눈 오는 날에는 너무 늦게 와.

Geugeo swimne. Beoseuneun ttatteutan banmyeone nun oneun nareneun neomu neutge wa.

That's easy. The bus is warm, whereas on snowy days it comes way too late.
B 나도 할래. 걷는 건 추운 반면에 늦을 일은 없어.

My turn. Walking's cold, whereas you're never late.
A 대신 넘어지잖아.

Daesin neomeojijana.

But you fall over.
B 한 번밖에 안 넘어졌거든! 그거 숙제에 쓰면 안 돼!

I only fell once! Don't you dare put that in your homework!
A 벌써 생각했어. '하린이는 걸음이 빠른 반면에 잘 넘어진다.'

Beolsseo saenggakaesseo. 'Harinineun georeumi ppareun banmyeone jal neomeojinda.'

Too late, I've already got one: 'Harin walks fast, whereas she falls over easily.'
