Day 210: Class President Speech Tips

At home the evening before the class election, Seoyun (A), a primary school girl, talks to her mother (B).

How to study this lesson 4 steps

Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Still learning Hangul? Tick Romanization to see how each line sounds, but read the Korean first.
Download the Anki deck below and review it every day. It has every line of today's dialogue. Review earlier decks too when Anki asks you to.
Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Korean, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Good. But your voice is too quiet. And you keep looking at the paper.
A 그럼 어떻게 해?

B 크게 말한다거나 친구들 눈을 본다거나, 쉬운 것부터 하나씩 해 봐.

Start with the easy things, one at a time, like speaking up or looking your classmates in the eye.
A 근데 민준이는 반장 되면 간식을 쏜다거나 쉬는 시간을 늘린다거나 그런 약속을 했어.

Geunde Minjunineun banjang doemyeon gansigeul ssondageona swineun siganeul neullindageona geureon yaksogeul haesseo.

But Minjun promised stuff like treating everyone to snacks or making break time longer if he wins.
B 지킬 수 없는 약속은 하지 마. 네가 진짜 할 수 있는 걸 말해.

Jikil su eomneun yaksogeun haji ma. Nega jinjja hal su inneun geol malhae.

Don't make promises you can't keep. Talk about what you can really do.
A 음... '교실을 깨끗하게 하고, 친구들 말을 잘 들어 주는 반장이 되겠습니다!'

Eum... 'gyosireul kkaekkeutage hago, chingudeul mareul jal deureo juneun banjangi doegetseumnida!'

Hmm... "I'll be a class president who keeps our classroom clean and really listens to everyone!"
B 바로 그거야! 목소리도 아까보다 훨씬 커졌어.
