Day 65: Dad Picks Up the Rice Cakes

At her parents' home, Sujin (B), a young mother, goes over the plans for her baby's first-birthday party with her father (A).

Sure. You've booked the restaurant, so how many guests are coming?

Forty exactly. But I still haven't sorted out the rice cakes. The restaurant doesn't do them.

Leave the rice cakes to me. I'll buy them at the market on Saturday morning and take them straight to the restaurant.
B 진짜? 아침에 시장까지 다녀오면 힘들잖아.

Jinjja? Achime sijangkkaji danyeoomyeon himdeuljana.

Really? Going all the way to the market in the morning will wear you out.
A 당연히 괜찮지. 떡집 사장님이 아빠 친구라서 일찍 챙겨 줄 거야.

Dangyeonhi gwaenchanchi. Tteokjip sajangnimi appa chinguraseo iljjik chaenggyeo jul geoya.

Of course it's fine. The man who runs the rice cake shop is a friend of mine, so he'll have them ready early.
B 그럼 수수팥떡이랑 백설기로 부탁해. 혹시 수수팥떡이 없거든 백설기만 사 와.

Geureom susupattteogirang baekseolgiro butakae. Hoksi susupattteogi eopgeodeun baekseolgiman sa wa.

Then red bean sorghum cakes and white rice cakes, please. If they don't have the sorghum ones, just get the white ones.
A 알았어. 과일은? 과일도 필요하지?

Arasseo. Gwaireun? Gwaildo piryohaji?

Got it. What about fruit? You'll need fruit too, right?
B 응, 근데 식당에는 과일 씻을 데가 없어.

Eung, geunde sikdangeneun gwail ssiseul dega eopseo.

Yeah, but there's nowhere to wash fruit at the restaurant.
A 그럼 과일은 엄마랑 집에서 씻어다가 가져갈게. 걱정하지 마.

Geureom gwaireun eommarang jibeseo ssiseodaga gajyeogalge. Geokjeonghaji ma.

Then your mom and I will wash the fruit at home and bring it over. Don't worry.
B 고마워, 아빠. 역시 우리 아빠밖에 없어.
