Day 9: Grandpa Wants the Whole Village

On the phone, Jeongho (A) talks to his daughter Eunji (B) about the first-birthday party for her baby, Harin.

Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Still learning Hangul? Tick Romanization to see how each line sounds, but read the Korean first.

Eunji, about Harin's first-birthday party. Let's invite all my friends from back home.
B 다? 아빠, 몇 명인데?

Da? Appa, myeot myeonginde?

All of them? Dad, how many is that?
A 한 서른 명? 다들 우리 손녀 보고 싶어서 난리야.

About thirty? They're all dying to see my granddaughter.
B 아빠, 식당 방은 벌써 예약했어. 딱 가족만 들어가는 작은 방이야.

Appa, sikdang bangeun beolsseo yeyakaesseo. Ttak gajongman deureoganeun jageun bangiya.

Dad, I've already booked a room at a restaurant. It's a small room, just big enough for the family.
A 그럼 큰 데로 바꾸자. 잔치는 원래 사람이 많은 게 좋아.

Geureom keun dero bakkuja. Janchineun wollae sarami maneun ge joa.

Then let's switch to a bigger place. A party's always better with lots of people.
B 하린이는 사람 많은 데 가면 계속 울어. 그리고 중간에 낮잠도 자게 해야 돼.

Harinineun saram maneun de gamyeon gyesok ureo. Geurigo junggane natjamdo jage haeya dwae.

Harin cries non-stop when there are lots of people around. And I have to let her nap in the middle, too.
A 그래도 친구들한테 벌써 말했는데...

Geuraedo chingudeulhante beolsseo malhaenneunde...

But I've already told my friends...
B 그럼 이렇게 하자. 잔치 다음 주말에 내가 하린이 데리고 고향에 내려갈게.

Geureom ireoke haja. Janchi daeum jumare naega Harini derigo gohyange naeryeogalge.

Then how about this. The weekend after the party, I'll bring Harin down to your hometown.
A 고향에? 그럼 거기서 친구들 다 모이게 해도 돼?

Gohyange? Geureom geogiseo chingudeul da moige haedo dwae?

To my hometown? Then can I get all my friends together there?
B 응, 점심 한 번만. 아빠 친구들은 한번 모이면 밤까지 드셔.

Yes, but just for lunch. Once your friends get together, they're drinking till night.
