Day 248: Trainee Stylist Practises on Dad

At home, Yuri (B), who is training to be a hairdresser, asks her father (A) if she can practise on him.

Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Still learning Hangul? Tick Romanization to see how each line sounds, but read the Korean first.

Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Korean, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

B 학원 숙제야. 이번 주에 한 사람 머리를 잘라야 돼.

It's homework for my course. I have to cut someone's hair this week.
A 음... 짧게 잘라도 돼. 그런데 이상하게는 자르지 마.

Eum... jjalge jallado dwae. Geureonde isanghageneun jareuji ma.

Hmm... you can go short. But don't make it look weird.
B 걱정 마. 거울 보고 있어. 옆은 조금만 자를게.

Geokjeong ma. Geoul bogo isseo. Yeopeun jogeumman jareulge.

Don't worry. Watch in the mirror. I'll just take a little off the sides.
A 어? 방금 '앗' 했어?

Eo? Banggeum 'at' haesseo?

Huh? Did you just go "oops"?
B 아니야, 아무것도 아니야. 뒤가 조금 짧아. 괜찮아.

Aniya, amugeotdo aniya. Dwiga jogeum jjalba. Gwaenchana.

No, it's nothing. The back's a little short. It's fine.
A 음, 생각보다 괜찮네. 이제 미용실에 안 가도 되겠네.

Eum, saenggakboda gwaenchanne. Ije miyongsire an gado doegenne.

Hm, better than I expected. Looks like I won't need the hairdresser any more.
B 그럼 연습 노트에 쓸게. '아빠 머리 자름. 아빠가 좋아함.'

Geureom yeonseup noteue sseulge. 'Appa meori jareum. Appaga joaham.'

Then I'll write it in my practice log. "Cut Dad's hair. Dad happy."
A '뒤는 조금 짧음'도 써.

Write "back a bit short" too.
